James is an APM PMQ-qualified Principal Consultant specialising in active travel. Passionate about improving walking and cycling infrastructure and promoting sustainable transport, he believes well-designed and implemented active travel schemes can be key drivers in creating healthier, happier, and safer places to live.
He advises local, regional, and combined authorities nationwide, offering expertise ranging from concept design for new cycle routes to high-level active travel strategy. Recent project experience includes cycle route planning for clients such as the City of London Corporation and the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and strategy development for the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
James also leads Steer’s Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA) offering, developing robust assessments for high-profile and often controversial transport schemes. His EqIA experience spans a range of projects, including the Oxford Street Renewal Programme, Bank junction redesign, the Oxfordshire Traffic Filters scheme, and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) across London.
